During preference round, I was introduced to the Chi Omega symphony. The symphony is a reflection of what we as Chi Omegas value and what we strive to be. As I read the lines, I realized that it perfectly described the type of person I wanted to become. Surrounded by the strong women I admired so much, I knew that Chi O was exactly where I was meant to be. Now that my sophomore year is coming to a close I am so grateful for how my friends, and more specifically my Chi O family, have guided me higher and encouraged me to follow the symphony in all aspects of my life.
At the start of my freshman year, I felt a lot of uncertainty about where I fit in and who I wanted to be. I had lost the structure I had known all my life and I felt as though I had been thrown into the deep-end of the pool without fully understanding how to swim. I don’t think I would have gotten through my first year at Baylor if it weren’t for my big, Morgan.
I was extremely lucky to have met Morgan as early on in college as I did. She was a breath of fresh air in a time where stressful changes were suffocating. Morgan provided me with pieces of advice on how to study, what to bring to class, and how to find my people in college. Morgan was kind, humble, and generous. She always made time for me no matter how busy she was, whether I needed reassurance, guidance, or just someone to listen, she was always there without hesitation. She was (and still is) someone I look up to very much and I knew I wanted to be just like her.
When I joined Chi O I didn’t know very many girls, but my G-big Paige took the time to get to know me and make me feel welcome. She made an effort to include me, check in on me, and remind me that I had a place within our chapter. Paige has such a genuine and caring heart, and she has a way of making everyone around her feel seen and valued. Watching the way she loves others so effortlessly showed me what it truly means to be a Chi Omega, and I am so grateful to know her.
After I first met my little Callie, I left the SUB with the biggest smile on my face. I excitedly texted my mom that I had just met the most amazing freshman and I hoped she wanted to be my friend. Since then, I have had the pleasure of my life to know her. Callie carries herself with such poise and dignity and she brings a wisdom well beyond her years to every conversation. She is always ready to cheer you on, pick you up, or just go on a drive and let you clear your head. I have learned so much from her in such a short time, and I could not be more proud to call her my little and my best friend.
My Chi O family has been one of the biggest blessings of my college experience. Every day, I thank God for placing them in my path. Whether it was crying from laughter at Chuy’s or just being a safe space to vent, they have made my life so much brighter. They have gotten me through the highest highs and my lowest lows. They have shaped me in ways I never could have anticipated and have shown me what it is like to be “womanly always; discouraged never.”
I will always be grateful for Morgan, Paige, and Callie. I am so lucky to call them my friends, and even better, my sisters. I am forever indebted to them for how they have embraced me, celebrated me, and brought me closer to Christ. To my perfect fam, I’m yours forever!
Love, Caroline Hodge MC'25
